About us
It was never really about the clothes.
It started as a rail of secondhand clothes in one house in Jaipur. It is a few thousand people across the country now. This is how that happened, in the founder’s words.
It wasn't planned
I was obsessed with clothes. I bought pieces off friends, brought them back to Jaipur, and sold them out of my house. No business plan. No name yet.

I invited 10 or 15 people off my Instagram to come and shop the rail. Everything I made went straight back into buying more clothes. Then I did it again. Edition after edition.

Then I opened it up
Then I thought, why not bring in a couple of local brands. So I did. I invited a bakery too, because if people are already in the room you may as well give them a reason to stay in it.

That is when I clocked it. Nobody was there only for the clothes. They were hanging around, meeting people, finding brands they had never heard of. A little community, forming in my living room.

And then my house was not big enough. We moved to a cafe. Then another cafe. Then restaurants. Then clubs. We added games and after parties. Some nights ran to thousands of people.

It was never really streetwear
Somewhere in there the clothes stopped being the reason. It was the people. The conversations, the friendships, the feeling of being in on something. That is when I knew what HopShop actually was.

Which is why it keeps changing shape. If in three years this crowd would rather do sunrise walks or a film screening than a club, that is what we will run. The format moves. The room stays.
